Forbes ranks Austin top for future job growth
Chad Swiatecki Staff Writer- Austin Business Journal Aug 8, 2013
Austin’s healthy 4 percent annual job growth has put it at the top of another Forbes list, this one surveying the best cities for future job growth.
It’s a top 10 crowded with Texas cities, with McAllen, Houston and Fort Worth grabbing spots two through four and Dallas, Laredo and Brownsville grabbing the last three spots.
Sorting through the data, the analysis points out what’s become a common refrain; that Austin’s creative culture is a major draw for flocks of new residents and a big reason why companies like Accenture Plc. (NYSE: ACN), AT&T Corp. (NYSE: T), National Instruments Inc. (NYSE: NI) and Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) have all announced major expansions here recently.
It may seem like it, but this list is not a repeat. It’s just that on Wednesday Forbes also released a similar ranking of best places for business and careers. In that list of 200 metro areas Austin came in 13th.
